Puppydom

Feb 17

Eric and I have the best puppy in the whole world. Saturday, Valentine’s Day, we got up and drove to The Dalles to pick up our puppy. It was such a strange place. I figured since it was a shelter of sorts it would be its own store or something. Not the case. We drove into town and found the shelter. It was in a consignment shop. Funny. You walk into the store and in the back are the puppies and everything. They only do adoptions on Saturday so I guess that’s not too bad. Eric and I had such a fun time picking out our puppy. We walked in the cage area with them and pet them all (there were four) and hung out with them until we figured out which we wanted. They are all lab/chow mix. Most of the girls were flat coat but one was a total fur ball. I thought she was cute but very impractical since I didn’t want a high maintenance dog. There was another one that was eating and a total piggy. She ate the whole time we were there. Finally we decided on the puppy we have, “Baylee”. We took her up stairs in the place, filled out the paperwork and we were off. The whole way home I sat in the back with her hoping she wouldn’t be one of those car sick puppies. She wasn’t. There was one moment that she thought about it but for the most part she just stat and slept. WooHoo… We got her home and shoed her the potty place outside and she went potty. She’s so good. She goes potty on command. I was expecting her to cry the first night. Not the case. She didn’t cry or whine or anything. She just went in her crate and slept.

Sunday she was up at 6 am. argh!!! that was hard but OK since she didn’t get up in the night. She didn’t wet her bed or anything. We went outside and she did her business. She’s so good! The cats weren’t sure what to make of her. They didn’t like having her around because, being a puppy, she moves fast and they’re not sure why. I took her for a walk and she was great. SHe does better on the halter than just a collar.

Yesterday we went to Greg and Hollie’s. We hadn’t really planned it but we took Baylee for a walk and ended up at Greg and Hollie’s. Ginny and Baylee got along great. I was so happy because I don’t want her to be afraid of everything. Baylee was great with Miles too. They all had a blast! Ginny wanted to play but Baylee sure wasn’t sure about it. It was cute though because Baylee would act playful with Ginny and then try and hide behind me when Ginny tried to play with her. I think Baylee wasn’t sure because Ginny was bigger. Miles was so cute too. He was in an adorable mood. At one point he and Eric were sitting on the couch and Eric said “Wow” about something and Miles mimicked him. It was so cute. I love that kid… I can’t wait until he’s running down the block to our house to hang out.

OK, back to work :)
