Taking time for me

by jltitus on June 9, 2006

I took time off today. I took a half day off and had a great time with my friend Natalie. Natalie is getting married in September in Hawaii. She’s been trying to decide what to do about her dress for the wedding and what she wants to wear. The other day, OK, last week we found the pattern for the dress she wants made. She’s too nervous to make it so I told her I would. I haven’t had a reason to sew something fun in a long time. Ok, I know some of you may be thinking I’m nuts. Don’t worry, it’s an EASY dress. I mean it’s got something like 5 pieces to it and it’s only a 2 1/2 yard dress if that tells you anything. SO today we went to Fabric Depot to scout out fabric because I’m hoping I can cut the dress out while I’m in Washington because my mother has a great place to lay it out. SO back to the story. we found this beautiful material that’s got embroidery on it, it’s daisies. There are a bunch on the bottom edge and then they get less and less flowers as you go up the material. Of course it’s a pretty penny $50 a yard but do not fear, we happened to have gone when it was a 40% off everything day. It was awesome. I ended up getting material for a simple quilt for my bosses baby that she’ll be having in the fall. Oh, back to the dress, so we got the dress fabric and everything that goes with it. I can’t believe I’m sewing her dress. I’m pretty excited about it. Wish me luck..

Hanging at moms

by jltitus on April 4, 2006

Today is our second day at my moms place in Othello. Coming here is always interesting. I like to come because my mother is here and even though we drive each other crazy sometimes I love spending time with her. What’s sort of weird is to go to Wal-Mart, the local grocery store and hang out, and see people I went to school with working there. I don’t mean to sound snobby but I realize just how far away from an “Othello” life I lead. Sometimes I come and realize that I’m on a different plane than the people I see when I’m in my home town. I look around an reminisce about the times I had growing up in Othello and how much I loved it but the place and people have changed and yet it’s like they’re suspended in time. It’s very weird.

Today mom and I headed to Moses Lake to get the batting and backing for the quilts I made for our bedroom and the guest room. It seemed like we were there forever this morning but it was worth the time to pick just the right fabrics. Once we were done we had to go back to Othello and piece together the backing and then cut, fold and iron the binding for the lady doing my quilts in Royal City We talked design and all for a while. I really think the quilts are going to turn out super cool. I can’t wait to get the quilts back. I was surprised to find out that they’ll be done for my mom to pick them up the first of May so I’ll have them when she, Bob and Julie all come down in May. I’m so super excited. So I’ll get the quilts and my new ring, what could be better than that :) Today was a great day.

Tomorrow, back to Portland and building the raised herb garden and getting the garden ready, there’s another project I can’t wait for. Last year was super fun growing and harvesting food. This year we’ve got a better plan together. I got this cool book about square foot gardening and how to maximize your garden and yet get great results so we’re going to implement that strategy and try to have a garden all season. I can’t wait.

Golf and quilting

by jltitus on June 20, 2004

Today we got up and took John and Brandi to the Farmers Market at Orenco. We met up with Greg and Hollie and Miles and went shopping. We didn’t get a heap of things but we did get a few. I love the berries out right now. They were so tasty. When we got back to the house the boys watched the US Open (Golf) while I helped Brandi make quilted placemats. She’s very good at sewing she didn’t need much help. It made me want to learn hose to use Julie’s machine and sew some myself and do some other cool things. The problem is that I’m spoiled and I’d want to leave the machine out all the time and we don’t really have the space. I do think I might make some place mats or something. We’ll see.
