Wild winter weather

Wild winter weather

The last week here has been…. well, CRAZY! We’ve gotten a huge dump of snow here in the last week. I think we’re up to the fourth snow storm coming in the next day or so. Today marks day 9 of being stuck at home, except for a brief amount of time on Friday, when the weather cleared and we had time to get Christmas gifts. We now have 8 inches for now and a 1/2 inch of ice on top of that snow here in Hillsboro, Oregon. I can’t believe it’s this bad. I’m pretty sure that this snow storm is worse than the storm of 2003/2004. I mean already highway 84 has been closed several times and chains have been required for all cars around town for days.

When this crazy weather started I was excited at to prospect of a white Christmas but now, it’s looking like it’s gong to be a small affair for Christmas because the snowy weather is supposed to continue for the next week which will mean bad roads and I don’t want my mom and Eric’s parents making a treacherous trip like that. Like I said… this is day nine and I’ve got cabin fever so bad… heck, even Eric has cabin fever. We’ve played video games, watched movies and tv.. for tons of hours. We’ve even broken out a puzzle to do… that’s how bored we are. We’re both sick of being home and getting bored with it all. I’ve taken some time to make some holiday caramels and I think here in a bit I’ll make some sugar cookies. I think the other thing that stinks is that this isn’t much of a Christmas break, because we can’t go anywhere, or do anything. In any case, I’m hoping the weather improves so we can all have a wonderful and safe holiday.

Snow

Well, it’s snowing down here, or rather it was snowing earlier down here. A lot of the schools are closed but they waited until forever before they closed, some until 8:30am. We’ve gotten about 3-4 inches since it started at 4 am this morning. The crazy thing is that they’re requiring chains on Sylvan hill. I have never hear of such a thing. So today it’s just a little slow around here. Eric boss even called and told him to just stay home because they didn’t anticipate anyone coming.

Looking for a job continues. I’ve had some interviews lately and they’ve been gong pretty well. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping something pans out soon since I’m really ready to get back in “the swing of things”

I found this today. Ecto It’s a blogging tool. I really like that you can put in iPhoto, iTunes and Amazon into it but I don’t see a place where you can allocate a posting just to your LJ friends which is a problem so you can’t post to private, I guess. I think I’ll mess with it a little more and see if I can find anything on it. I like to format though, just seems easier.

Oh here’s the books I’m reading right now. (this is a feature from Ecto) Pretty cool!!!

Heading home

Dec 18

Today we headed to Othello for the holidays. We’re planning on going to my mom’s for about 5 days and then to Eric’s parents’ for about 5 days. Eric and I got up late today so we didn’t get out by 11 as we’d planned and I forgot to get the oil changed in the car so we really didn’t get out when we’d planned. Eric took the car to get the oil changed while I finished getting everything packed up and ready to go for our trip. Baylee was running around wondering what was going on too. I’d just gotten back from Boston and I think she was worried I was heading out somewhere else again. When Eric got home we loaded the car with everything, even the dog, got in the car to go and it wouldn’t start. Argh! So we called Eric’s dad and figured/hoped it was the battery. Eric went across the street to the neighbors, Brian’s, and got jumper cables to try and jump my car. We jumped the car and sure enough everything worked. SO we headed out at something like 2:30pm. It took us over an hour getting out of town because the roads were slick. Eric did a great job driving to The Dalles. At about The Dalles we changed places because the weather was getting really bad and the compact snow and ice is something Eric doesn’t feel comfortable in. I drove from there home. We went through bad snow storms and weather. There were a couple of times that it did get a little dicey too. I was so glad when we got to Othello safely.

Things they are a changing

Jan 12

It’s been forever since I’ve written… how bad am I. Last week there was so much snow every where that Eric only had one day of classes. he went the first day and then the rest of the week was cancelled due to the weather. I didn’t go to work Wednesday and Thursday…things are getting sort of crazy. This weekend we boxed a lot of stuff and took it over to the new house. I love the new house, but I HATE MOVING… I don’t know how many times in this process I’ve wished I could just wiggle my nose and it would all be moved and in the right place. but … such is not the case… We got quite a bit moved over. I was glad about that. The hope is to get most everything moved over except for furniture and then on Saturday move the furniture and be done with it all. I’m hoping we can do that…I just want it all over. It’s the little things I’m looking forward to, like the fact that in the new house the whole house is the same temperature. In the condo the downstairs is almost 10 degrees cooler… why, because the furnace they put in the place is too small for the square footage…I can’t wait to have the fireplace again and the kitchen in the house is HUGE. I’ll be a baking/cooking maniac. My mom is coming down on Friday to help with the move and I’m taking M/TU off next week so I can put everything away before I go back to work….cross your fingers that everything goes well.

Snow, cold and ice

Jan 07

A day home. Today the roads were way worse than yesterday. I didn’t even try to go to work today. It was a sheet of ice out there. Did I stay home? Of course not, I conned Eric into going to the house and finished painting the office. When we first got there we started to walk over to Greg and Hollie’s to find out where the mailboxes are since we now had the key. The snow on the ground was covered with this thick crust of ice so I was trying to step hard so I could crush the ice layer and actually walk as opposed to slide all over the place. We got about half way and I took a HUGE nose dive. My hands broke through the ice layer and in a matter of seconds I was on all fours in the middle of the street. Eric tried to help me up but I was being a snot and didn’t want help. I was so mad I felt and hitting the ice with my hands and breaking through it hurt so bad. It was like putting my hands through glass and hitting a million needles. My hands stung so badly and I got a cut and started bleeding. After being angry for a while I walked back to our house because I didn’t want to fall anymore.

We got all the painting done, things cleaned up and I think we’re ready to go. Now we’ve just got the curtain rods and blinds to hand up and the grout to seal. I’m hoping the weather will lift soon and everything will melt away so we can take stuff over to the house, unload it and get everything moved but the big stuff. I don’t know if that’s going to happen. I’m really anxious just to move and have it over.

The fact that I haven’t been able to get to work, or when I do no one else is there makes getting those activities done. Eric and I have quite a few boxes packed and ready to take over to the house but, again… the weather isn’t helping the situation. I have a feeling that tomorrow isn’t going to get any better since we’re in another 36 hour winter storm warning. Keep your fingers crossed that everything will work out well and we’ll get moved without incident. :)
